Nonstore Retailing is classified as under:
1. Direct Selling:
Direct selling is a retail conduit for the dispensation of goods and services. There is no fixed retail location. Instead, in direct selling, the retailer has direct contact with his ultimate customers.
It is a highly interactive form of retailing. Products like cosmetics, jewelry, and food items are sold in such a manner. The retailers visit the customers' homes or workplaces to sell the products. It is also called network marketing, where the products and services are sold one-on-one.
2. Mail order:
It is a retail pattern in which offerings are communicated to the customers through a catalog, letters or brouchers. Such retailing is fitting for specialty products. The buyer orders the required products with the merchant through a telephone call or website. Internet and online payment options have made shopping from home easier.
3. Tele Marketing:
It is a retail form in which the products are promoted on television. The product's characteristics, price, warranty, direction to use, etc., are referred to and explained. Phone numbers are given, so customers can call and place an order for the product.
4. Automatic Vending:
This is a nonstore retail in which the products are kept in a machine and dispensed to the customers when they place cash. Vending machines are positioned at convenient and busy locations like airports, shopping malls, workplaces etc. This machine mainly contains products such as chocolates, snacks and drinks etc.
5. Electronic retailing:
It is also called e-tailing or internet retailing. It is a retail pattern in which products are offered to customers through the internet. The customers can evaluate and acquire the products from their homes or offices. This kind of retail has been gaining importance in recent years.
