GXO Logistics, Inc. [NYSE:GXO] has been recognized by Retail Business Review Magazine as the exclusive recipient of “Top E-commerce Fulfillment Services 2026,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry, and is also named among “Top E-Commerce Fulfillment Companies,” reflecting its broader leadership. This profile has been developed by the Retail Business Review research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Patrick Kelleher, CEO.
Patrick Kelleher, CEOE-commerce fulfillment involves more than getting orders out the door. Retailers need to keep track of inventory, manage their workforce, ensure orders are accurate and deliver them on time, all while handling returns and keeping up with changing demand. As customer expectations grow and order volumes rise and fall, getting these moving parts right has become essential to running a successful retail business.
GXO Logistics, Inc. operates at the intersection of technology and execution. It combines warehouse automation, data-driven decision-making and adaptable logistics infrastructure to help retailers keep pace with demand. Its e-commerce services cater to pure-play online retailers, omnichannel merchants and manufacturers selling directly to consumers, each with distinct fulfillment requirements.
GXO's objective is not merely to move more packages. It is to build operations that can respond to changing demand without sacrificing accuracy or service consistency.
Inside GXO's Fulfillment Engine
E-commerce fulfillment involves a series of interdependent activities. Inventory must be received and recorded accurately, orders routed to the right locations, products packed and shipments dispatched within promised delivery windows. Returns introduce another flow of goods that must be inspected, processed and, where appropriate, returned to available inventory. GXO addresses this complexity through integrated warehousing, order fulfillment, distribution and reverse logistics services tailored to customer requirements.
Technology connects these activities. GXO uses warehouse management systems alongside automated sortation, autonomous collaborative robots and goods-to-person solutions. Rather than treating each technology as a standalone installation, the company integrates automation into warehouse workflows. This helps employees locate inventory, process orders and move products more efficiently.
GXO also uses predictive analytics and machine learning to help plan staffing and inventory. By looking at past order trends and customer forecasts, its teams can prepare for busy periods and ensure they have the people and resources needed to keep orders moving.
A Strategy Built around Adaptability
A distribution center built for steady demand may struggle when orders surge. Similarly, a facility designed for one product category may not meet the storage and handling needs of another. GXO addresses these challenges with solutions tailored to each customer's requirements.
GXO Direct, its flexible warehousing and fulfillment offering, gives businesses access to logistics infrastructure and operational resources without having to build and manage every capability themselves.
A luxury fashion retailer partnered with GXO Direct to handle its online orders across the country. With inventory stored closer to customers, the retailer could cut down on shipping times and reduce the costs of running its fulfillment operations.
The distribution center became a strategic shipping hub, with collaborative robots, known as cobots, supporting approximately 300 employees to improve efficiency and accuracy. The operation occupies more than 385,000 square feet in a GXO-operated Silver LEED-certified building. It was the third facility added to the retailer's network and its first outsourced site. The customer subsequently expanded its footprint at the facility by nearly 40 percent, adding storage capacity and a new product category.
The example shows how flexible fulfillment arrangements help retailers respond to changing product ranges and distribution needs. Beyond providing warehouse space, GXO supports facility planning, hiring, process setup, packaging and transportation, helping customers adjust their operations as their e-commerce businesses grow and evolve.
Performance in Practice
In 2024, GXO launched a large-scale robotics solution in France for one of the world's largest sporting goods retailers. The project integrated tote-to-person robotics with dense storage across an area exceeding 12,000 square meters. It formed part of a broader supply chain transformation across the retailer's European omnichannel network, designed to accelerate order fulfillment and accommodate seasonal demand.
The commercial relevance of such solutions extends beyond delivery speed. Product presentation, packaging and personalized requests also matter to retailers. GXO's fashion and apparel services include gift wrapping, messaging, kitting and labeling, alongside reverse logistics options such as refurbishment and retagging. These services help fulfillment operations reflect a retailer's requirements across direct-to-consumer and business-to-business orders.
Returns need just as much attention as outgoing orders. GXO helps retailers manage the process, from inspecting returned products to processing them and putting suitable items back into inventory. With better visibility into stock levels and movement, retailers can keep track of their inventory and make informed decisions about what to do next.
For retailers, fulfillment must support growth without creating operational fragility. Logistics partners need to accommodate volume fluctuations, introduce new product categories and maintain service standards as requirements change. GXO brings together automation, analytics, flexible infrastructure and customer-specific operations to address these demands. Its value lies not in any single technology but in integrating systems, people and processes around each customer's needs.
This combination of operational scale, technological investment and adaptability underpins GXO Logistics, Inc.'s recognition as Top E-commerce Fulfillment Services 2026. As retailers navigate increasingly complex fulfillment requirements, GXO's ability to coordinate technology, people and processes helps them adapt their operations to changing demand while maintaining service consistency.
